WHAT IS #ROCKTHENAKEDTRUTH?
#RockTheNakedTruth is a body image movement initiated by Singaporean fitness personality and Ironman triathlete Cheryl Tay in January 2016 to inspire others to overcome their insecurities and find confidence in themselves, as well as encourage themselves to be comfortable in their own skin.
You only have one body to live in for the rest of your life, so be responsible for it and take good care of it. Advocating an active lifestyle, #RockTheNakedTruth embraces inner beauty and brings together a support community to motivate each other. Because you're not alone.
Anyone can be part of this movement – whether you are struggling from body image issues, have struggled before or know someone who is. This movement is open to both males and females.
Body image refers to the way you perceive yourself. It is not just about the weight, but it is any aspect that affects your self-esteem and confidence. It is not uncommon to feel bad about yourself, whether it’s about your weight, your skin, your hair or your teeth. But, you only have one body so love your body for what it is and discover what it can do for you.
“I suffered from eating disorders (like anorexia and binge eating disorder) and low self-esteem for over a decade. Previously I never thought myself beautiful and I always found myself inferior. I had all these grouses about my body – boobs too small, legs too thick, arms too flabby, face isn’t pretty.
For so many years, especially through my teenage years, I felt so insecure about myself and I put my body through so much abuse - from slimming pills to slimming centres, meal replacements, fat-melting injections, extreme exercise, excessive laxatives and diuretics, and more. Well, all that is history now.
You live in your body for your entire lifetime, so it’s your responsibility to treat it well. Society is harsh but you don’t need others to love you; you love yourself first. I found my confidence through fitness when I saw what my body could do for me. Look in the mirror and tell yourself you are worthy. Rock the naked truth.”
