#RockTheNakedTruth is a body image movement initiated by Singaporean sports and fitness photojournalist Cheryl Tay to inspire others to find confidence in their bodies through fitness, as well as encourage them to take care of their body well.
Advocating healthy methods of getting in shape, #RockTheNakedTruth promotes an active lifestyle and embraces inner beauty. Most importantly, one of the main objectives of the movement is to bring together a support community to motivate each other.
Anyone can be part of this movement – whether you are struggling from body image issues, have struggled before or know someone who is. Ultimately, the goal is to create a sustainable movement where everyone pays it forward. This movement is open to both males and females.
Body image refers to the way you perceive yourself. It is not just about the weight, but it is any aspect that affects your self-esteem and confidence. It is not uncommon to feel bad about yourself, whether it’s about your weight, your skin, your hair or your teeth. But, you only have one body so love your body for what it is and discover what it can do for you.
“I suffered from body image issues for an entire decade. I never thought myself beautiful, I always found myself inferior. I had all these grouses about my body – boobs too small, legs too thick, arms too flabby, face isn’t pretty. My extroverted nature is a cover to conceal how I really feel about myself.
I put my body through so much abuse, from slimming pills to slimming centres, meal replacements, mesotherapy, extreme exercise, excessive laxatives and diuretics, and more. Well, all that is history now.You live in your body for your entire lifetime, so it’s your responsibility to treat it well. Society is harsh but you don’t need others to love you; you love yourself first. I found my confidence through fitness when I saw what my body could do for me.
