We are on 2 podcasts!

Our founder Cheryl Tay got the opportunity to be on TWO podcasts this year! Both podcasts are similar, telling about her struggles with her body and eating disorders and how/why she set up Rock The Naked Truth.

Here they are, for your listening pleasure:

1 – The Lokalfeed Show ep. 15 (listen to it here)

The Lokalfeed Show is run by Aqilah Norman, a friend of ours that we met back in 2016 when Cheryl first launched Rock The Naked Truth. Cheryl knew her through a mutual friend and Aqilah readily agreed to be part of one of our early campaigns. She was in our recent campaign with Perk by Kate too. Very grateful for friends like that who believe in what we are doing!

2 – Screwed Up Moments ep. 2 (listen to it here)

This podcast series by Screwed Up Moments is the next step after the series of talks by Happiness Initiative. Cheryl was one of the speakers at one of these talks and then we also co-hosted one of these talks with three people from our ROCKrunners community sharing their stories. The objective of the podcast is for us speakers to elaborate on our stories and have a permanent platform for people to listen to, if they missed the talk or want to hear more from us.

Always grateful for any chance to spread the body positivity message; thank you for taking the time to listen 🙂

Puma x Rock The Naked Truth (the stories)

When Marie Flores went for her first yoga class back in 2011 with her sister, she couldn’t even reach her shin for a simple forward bend. But she felt energised after the class and signed up for more yoga classes.

Next thing she knew, she was doing it almost everyday. It hurt her when people comment that “yoga is easy and it’s just stretching for women”. The desire to correct that mindset pushed her to go for Yoga Teacher Training and she is now a yoga instructor.

The 32-year-old web designer also started taking part in open water races, even though she only learnt how to swim a few years ago. Swimming in the open sea is crazy to some but this doesn’t intimidate Marie at all.
At one point, Ivan Chan was busy building his career and he led a very sedentary lifestyle. The 44-year-old father of 2 was so much of a workaholic that he neglected his health and often fell sick, even contracting tuberculosis.

It was only 5 years ago that he realised he needed to change his lifestyle and take care of his own body. Seeing how his wife experienced positive changes in her life after picking up running, he decided to join her too.

People used to say that Ivan would get blown away by a gust of wind because he was so frail. But after incorporating a regular routine of gym work, HIIT and running, he is now strong and healthy!
She is five months pregnant, but if I didn’t tell you, would you have guessed? Amanda Dale looks amazing but she had a moment of doubt after the fitting where she squeezed her pregnant body into these tight fitting clothes.

She wanted to back out of this campaign but I’m glad she didn’t eventually, because this is what #rockthenakedtruth is about. Embrace your body and be proud of what it can do!

Amanda was a competitive gymnast and diver as a kid, she was a sponsored triathlete, she qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon. Now she is a personal trainer and a nutrition coach, and a mama-to-be of a baby girl!

And yes, you don’t have to be at your fittest or leanest to be the best version of yourself. You just need to be happy and confident, to be the best version of yourself.
He has been in competitive sport for nearly three decades, swimming since the age of 9 and then switching to water polo in his mid-20s. In both sports, he represented Singapore and amassed many, many medals!

It wasn’t easy to switch sports at an older age when the other teammates are younger, but he did it anyway and was the national water polo team vice captain, co-leading them to 3 SEA Games gold medals, 2 Asian Games and 1 Commonwealth Games.

He feels that “self-confidence is a fine line between letting our inner confidence shine through versus using external materials to cover up what we may feel is lacking.

Either way, let’s try to know that you are enough, even on days when we know we need to work on ourselves.

No one is perfect. Acknowledge that for yourself and others. Do not punish yourself for anything that goes wrong but acknowledge you have a part to play.

Knowing everyone is imperfect, means not to make anyone feel worse about their mistakes.

Be sure yet knowing it may not always be perfect might just be the solution to being CONFIDENT.”
