Smith Leong: Be responsible for your own health

I have always been a fat kid since young but I don’t think being fat stops me from being a better person in any way. I wasn’t the kid that got bullied in school, I was never the kid that has no friends. In fact I think (I hope or rather I choose to believe) that me being who I was got me more friends because you know, the good looking guy doesn’t feel intimidated and the pretty girls probably wouldn’t be romantically into you and they just treat you as close friend. #friendzoneSince1984 LOL.

I think being fat doesn’t determine who you are entirely. Yes, you look a little less physically desirable, but being confident and having a winning personality makes a big difference too. You can’t rock a 6-pack if you are nothing more than a douchebag.

I think I digress a little. Bottomline is, being fat shouldn’t affect your life emotionally but being fat does affect your health so we should still pay attention to our health in terms of activity and what we eat as well. I am not the healthiest person, I snack, I drink. I am not the most disciplined person when it comes to sports but I try my best to do light running, play a game or two of sports and even hit the gym.

At my peak I was over 100kg and at my fittest during army I was at 77kg.

Over the years my weight has never be consistent but it has never affected my life in terms of mental health. Only problem is I have to keep buying clothes over and over again, which is bad for wallet. I didn’t crash my diet nor try out weight pills.

Just exercise some discipline in terms of both activity and food intake. Being healthy and looking good is a form of responsibility not just to yourself, but also to your family and love ones. Always love yourself!
